Currently available Reports

A. MMPI-2 Narrative Report:  This is the major long-term focus of our work, the highly individualized report in four sections:

  • Test Taking Attitude
  • Symptoms and Personality Characteristics
  • Diagnostic Impression
  • Treatment Considerations
These reports are assembled very largely one sentence at a time.  The algorithms then generate a dictation-formatted report.  About three-fourths of these reports now contain the new Adaptation and Attachment Hypotheses section, an exploration of Etiology for the more frequent codetypes.  (There is insufficient information for this on the many rarely occurring codetypes.)

B. Custody Report:  This is the interpersonal side of the MMPI-2, providing hypotheses regarding 26 variables that pertain to family interactions and child custody examinations.  These are complimentary to the predominantly intrapsychic emphasis of the narrative reports.  We have recently added reference information to each of the 26 variables, indicating the scales, scores, and indices by which the particular hypotheses were mainly generated; this makes these hypotheses much more easily defended in depositions and testimony.

C. Custody and Narrative Report Combined:  the two separate reports based on the same answer sheet.

D. Personnel Evaluation Form: This is mainly used for the screening of high risk employment and related selections of special se nsitivity and/or consequences for the public.  It is also used for return-to-work evaluations.

E. Personnel Evaluation Form plus Narrative Reports:  These two reports provide complementary information as to the person’s intrapsychic issues and how the individual’s personality can potentially affect work performances.

F. Narrative Report plus Criminal Forensic Supplement:  This adds a brief report considering the influences on the individual’s item responses due to incarceration.  It notes items that might be answered differently in the absence of incarceration, for consideration and possible interview inquiry.

G. Supplemental Validity Report:  In some applications (e.g., job screening) the test validity information is crucial.  These reports present just our uniquely differentiated Test Taking Attitude section from the Narrative Report.

H. Supplemental Validity Report plus Personnel Evaluation Form:  This combination offers a remarkably fine fix on an applicant with a very specific analysis as to how the person approached the testing.
I. Shipley Institute of Living Report:  This provides an approximate estimation of IQ along with commentary on any appreciable discrepancy between the two parts of the Shipley.

J. Narrative Report plus Shipley Report

K. Scoring Only:  Profile graph, Critical Items, and Supplemental Scale scores.

L. Invalid Report:  A specialized analysis of Test Taking Attitude when the validity scores are too extreme to justify a configural interpretation of the profile.  The fee is applicable to a narrative report on a valid retest answer sheet submitted within two (2) months of the invalid test.

NEW DVD NOW AVAILABLE  Three Psychologists, One Profile:  presents an educational workshop in which three nationally known experts build MMPI-2 interpretations from the ground up, having no information about the case beyond the test scores and basic demographics.  Drs. Roger L. Greene, David S. Nichols, and Alex B. Caldwell each provide an independent 40 minute showcase of how they think their way through a blind interpretation of a forensic MMPI-2 profile.  Following the experts’ interpretations, the treating psychologist, Dr. David Glassmire, presents details of the actual clinical case, thus providing an immediate point of resolution of the experts’ predictions.  Produced by Drs. David Brokaw and Holli Eaton, Azusa Pacific University.
This two DVD set contains a three-hour version providing the full content of the workshop, including a final question-and-answer period.  In addition it contains a one-hour condensed version of the workshop, suitable for graduate academic instruction if more time is not available.  The reports used by the three experts in their interpretations are also included on the DVD: the MMPI-2 Extended Score Report, the MMPI-2 Adult Interpretive System Version 3, Caldwell Report’s MMPI-2 Narrative Report, and David Nichols Revised Structural Summary of the MMPI-2.  They can be downloaded for personal study or for classroom handouts.

Caldwell Report is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists.  Caldwell Report maintains responsibility for this program and its content.  Three CE credits for the 3-hour version of the workshop are available from Caldwell Report at 1-877-MMPI-2-4U.  Two DVDs. Cost: $149.95 plus $6.00 shipping and handling ($12.37 sales tax for California orders); $25.00 processing fee for CE credits.

CD NEWLY AVAILABLE Station 60: Hathaway’s treatment for a young woman with hysterical deafness:  This CD is based on recordings from 1957 of a University of Minnesota Centennial radio program.  Dr. Hathaway had previously designed a unique and highly creative resolution to the deafness that leaves the young woman with her self-esteem intact with a defense against innuendoes or accusations of faking deafness.  (The actor who played Hathaway’s role spent considerable time studying Hathaway, and his portrayal is remarkably true to the man) .  This same dramatic and inspirational story, re-written for Studio One TV by original author Mayo Simon, won a national drama critics award for television drama of the year.  Brief comments on the context by Dr. Caldwell, at that time an Instructor on “Station 60” which designated the Psychiatry Department.  Cost: $49.95 plus $4.50 shipping and handling ($4.12 sales tax for California orders).

The profile of Jeffry Dahmer:  A DVD of Dr. Caldwell analyzing two profiles from Jeffry Dahmer, one a quite unique profile before final incarceration and an incarceration-affected testing afterwards.  The codetyping and many other scales combine into a complexly integrated picture.  It helps make sense out of his actions including his tolerance of his own unusual morbidity.  32 minutes.  Cost $29.95 plus $4.50 shipping and handling ($2.47 sales tax for California orders).

Forensic Questions and Answers on the MMPI©/MMPI-2:  In question and answer format, this is a very practical resource for direct and cross examination as well as a variety of clinical issues in the forensic context more generally.  Hardback, 102 pages, $29.95 plus $5.00 shipping and handling ($2.47 sales tax for California orders).

“What do the MMPI scales fundamentally measure?  Some hypotheses:  This paper considers the framework, content and consequences of treating the eight basic clinical scales as broad dimensions of fear and avoidance.  Available from:  Alex Caldwell (2001). Journal of Personality Assessment, 76(1), 1-17.  Alternatively, write Caldwell Report for a copy.

Empathetic use of the MMPI in the process of psychotherapy:  Manuscript by Micheline Becker published by Caldwell Report.  Integrating the MMPI into the therapeutic process: the facilitation of empathy, the demystification of the MMPI, new non-clinical names for the scales, explaining each scale to the client, the client as an active participant in the interpretation process, and the MMPI as a guide to past experiences which lead to present distresses.  43 pages, 8 ½ x 11, Cost $10.00 plus $2.50 shipping and handling (plus $1.24 sales tax for California orders).

Toward an integration of Buddhist principles and MMPI concepts of psychopathology: The increase and decrease of human suffering.  Manuscript by Micheline Becker published by Caldwell Report.  Integration of how a particular Western psychological model of psychopathology can be used in conjunction with an Eastern psychology, Buddhism.  Gives a fresh perspective as to how suffering, as delineated in the MMPI from depression to mania, can be increased by specific attitudes such as attachment and aversion.  These can be relieved by the application of corresponding antidotes.  43 pages, 8 ½ x 11, Cost $10.00 plus $2.50 shipping and handling ($1.24 sales tax for California orders).
